You’ll find a couple of fantastic, close-knit communities when you search Allied Gardens and Del Cerro homes. Allied Gardens lies on the northern border of Del Cerro, and both neighborhoods are less than 10 miles from everything happening in San Diego. Both Del Cerro and Allied Gardens real estate can be a great choice for commuters looking for a little more space and privacy than can be had in San Diego itself. Both I-15 and I-8 are very close to both areas.
They have similar, though distinct histories. Del Cerro was developed from the 1950s through the 1970s. The area is very hilly, and Del Cerro means “of the hill” in Spanish. Allied Gardens homes were first built in 1955 and continued to be developed through the 1970s. Like Del Cerro, house-hunters will find beautifully maintained mid-century modern homes as well as ranch homes and other styles popular at the time.
Families considering either Del Cerro or Allied Gardens will be pleased with the public schools in both areas. Several excellent private schools are nearby as well. No matter which type of school parents choose, their children receive a solid academic grounding and are prepared for college and careers. San Diego State University is located just to the south of Del Cerro, providing a great local place for students to continue their educations.
There’s quite a bit of local shopping available in Del Cerro and Allied Gardens, as well as in the surrounding communities. Del Cerro Boulevard has several cafes and restaurants, as well as Windmill Farms, an organic grocery and deli. Allied Gardens brings the community together for First Friday concerts from June through October.
